{"id":1868,"date":"2017-02-10T10:00:41","date_gmt":"2017-02-10T14:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/davidmcrampton.com\/?p=1868"},"modified":"2020-09-18T18:29:53","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T22:29:53","slug":"writing-journal-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidmcrampton.com\/?p=1868","title":{"rendered":"Writing Journal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Originally written on 02 January 2016<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Picking a new title for Too Dimensional<\/p>\n<p>Why does the old title bug me?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Too sci-fi, not enough fantasy<\/li>\n<li>Relates to story mechanic, rather than the story itself.<\/li>\n<li>Nikki would say I dislike it because she came up with it.<\/li>\n<li>Doesn&#8217;t feel linked to the story.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Opening conflict &#8211; Coll being tortured by &#8220;Adam&#8221; and demon in his dreams.<br \/>\nNext layer out &#8211; Coll telling Julia about it.<br \/>\nNext layer out &#8211; Coll isn&#8217;t the only one, some of his friends are involved in the Weird Shit, too.<\/p>\n<p>From Julia&#8217;s POV, this is supposed to be a paranormal mystery story.<br \/>\nFrom Adam&#8217;s POV, this is a superhero\/antihero genesis story.<br \/>\nFrom Coll&#8217;s POV, this is a horror story.<br \/>\nFrom Zeke and Grace&#8217;s POV, this is the beginning of an adventure story.<br \/>\nFrom Seth&#8217;s POV, this is a paranormal romance(?) story.<\/p>\n<p>Central conflict &#8211; Adam vs. Self<br \/>\nSecondary conflict &#8211; Adam vs. Walter<\/p>\n<p>Many Aspects \/ Many Facets \/ Tunnel of Mirrors \/ Supporting Cast \/ Story Crafters \/ Regenesis \/ Neogenesis \/ Rebirth \/ <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Lost Story Found<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Heart of the story &#8211; growth through suffering (? Really?)<br \/>\nHeart of the metastory &#8211; discovery<\/p>\n<p>The two lines above were from 26 July 2014, and having just re-read the whole thing, I have to disagree. Not with the metastory, that still feels accurate. But the heart of this story, something I remember insisting was true to Emma in that Biggby&#8217;s, falls flat to me now.<\/p>\n<p>None of the characters, except for maybe Seth, do any real growth due to suffering. The heart of this story is Adam&#8217;s awakening. In later stories, the focus and the heart will be in those around Adam, in this story he is as much catalyst as catalyzed.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor&#8217;s Note &#8211; I ended up going with&nbsp;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">What No Eye Has Seen<\/span>, rather than&nbsp;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Lost Story Found<\/span>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Originally written on 02 January 2016 Picking a new title for Too Dimensional Why does the old title bug me?
