TAURUS (April 20-May 20): The greatest gift you can give right now might be the gift that you yourself were never given. The most valuable service you have to offer your fellow humans may be the service you have always wished were performed for you. An experience that wounded you could and should move you to help people who’ve been similarly wounded. You now have the power to heal yourself by healing others.

From : They’re going to close the Detroit Zoo, because they can’t fund it. But they won’t let the Detroit Zoological Society take it over? How does that work?

On the same note, this issue has taken us back in time 200 years. Because I’m white, apparently, I’m not allowed to like Detroit. Nor hope for it, nor want to help it, nor want to teach there… I thought that my generation was supposed to be the bitter and apathetic one.

From : You know that Gay Agenda that you hear about on the news? Well, she got her hands on a copy!

Thoughts gathered from reading my friends’ page…

Is it now legal for telemarketers to call cell phones?

I’m not doing either Johari or Nohari. It’s hard enough to keep up with my friends’ list, even after mild trimming.

Everybody posted on Valentine’s Day. Tragic and funny, I see. Happy, I do not. We were going to host a drinking fest for a few of our single friends, but that fell through. The freezer is still full of alcohol, damnit.

Tom DID try to schedule a meeting for that day, though. Which strikes me as immensely funny.

You CAN go to Flint as a fun thing to do. Evidence is here. Michigan is not dying.

Graduation.

During my first attempt at a Bachelor’s degree, I was loathe to visit my advisor. The Computer Science advisor was… well, I have no good words for her. I waited months for appointments with her, and then she’d simply not show up. I did not recognize that I had power to stop this from happening, if only I’d pursue the right channels. Instead, I would simply be frustrated. Other times, I would simply be overwhelmed by everything that I needed to accomplish.

When would ask me where I was, as far as graduating was concerned, I didn’t really have an answer. I’m fairly certain that this was frustrating to him.

I had a meeting with my advisor yesterday, so now I know exactly how close I am to graduating.

The “Degree Navigator” tool that MSU provides attempts to match your degree’s requirements with the classes you’ve taken, and it does an okay job. It’s certainly better than it was back when it was first introduced (yes, I was there for the beta). It had this bit, though, that said I needed about 20 more credits in Religious Studies classes before I could graduate. This struck me as odd, as that’s about 2/3 of the entirety of the classes that the REL department offers.

After straightening things out, and doing some calculation on my own, I have come to a realization.

If I go to Japan this summer to finish my language requirement, I will have 2 (two) classes left to take upon my return. One class for my cognate (mini-major) and my senior thesis. That is it.

Boom.
