ConFusion Quandry

I have so much to read. I have so much to write. I have so many people that mean so much to me. I have so much to do.

But I have -so much- time.

Enter the cliche… where does it all go?

The books for ConFusion might not arrive on time. In the circumstance that they do not, I’m thinking of modifying an older idea. I have a bunch of badge ribbons that ask, “WHO IS THE SQUIRREL KING?” They’ve been the most popular ribbons of the three. I could give those that have read the book a ribbon, and a couple of USB jump drives with a .pdf copy of the whole novel. Then, I could print up twenty or so flyers that ask the same thing, and hang them in various locations around the con, with a picture of the Remembrance gem in the background (thanks again !). Underneath the question could be smaller print with a line of text directing them to people who have the ribbon. If they ask the question, they get a ribbon and a jump drive. Now, in the case that these people get asked the question (since they now have a ribbon), they can find people who have jump drives.

It’s an attempt at viral marketing that will rely upon sci-fi fantasy geeks to talk to a stranger. Luckily, being a con atmosphere, I think that it’s far more likely to happen. I think I’ve talked about this sort of thing before here. What do you think?

Forgot to post this.

Blizzards happen on my lunch break.

Yoinked from : Star Trek: Of Gods and Men. It’s got the real actors, from across the original series, DS9, and Voyager. I wonder if anyone’s showed this to Wil Wheaton yet. I am actually biting my nails in anticipation for the next segment. , you -have- to show this to Mom. MUST.

It uses the in-universe history from the original series, and all of the movies up to Star Trek: Generations. Cunningly. Enrapturingly. Other.adverbs.here. Not-quite-mirror-universe, people!

Whew. I’m tellin’ ya. Watch it. I have no idea how official it is, but it’s got the real actors in there. I have to think that it’s at least pseudo-sanctioned, but seeing the “Renegade Studios” bit in there, I’m not so sure.

Okay, after a short Google search, Mr. Wheaton clearly knows about it. Also, here is the official link to get in:

My job is still made of awesome. Have my own desk, now. Dual monitor setup. Have broken out the wireless ergonomic keyboard and mouse. Am in ergo joy.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday, no matter which you celebrate this time of year. Both my Yule and my Christmas were phenomenal. and Mom spoiled us yet again on Xmas, and I have tons of loot. I also have a new book about runes from a new group of Pagan friends. I also have a new trilogy and a new novel from friends who were met through gaming but are now so much more than that.

I have an enormous family out there, both blood and non-blood. I am thankful for this, and I hope I expressed that this holiday season. If I didn’t, I probably will with a silly “M’rry Christmas!” the next time I see you. :)

Also, rocks my socks for the Santa hat that he gave me. It really helped me out when I was getting depressed as Christmas approached.

I have a convention coming up in January. Well, one and a half. :) I’m getting back on that horse. My free time seems to be filling up quickly, but I want to hang out with as many people that I have been missing as possible. Speaking of which, for New Year’s Eve, I’ll be in Detroit for the IPM NYE party, and I’ll be in Ann Arbor on New Year’s Day. My phone is on and working again, so don’t hesitate to call me.

Unless you’re calling from a number that shows up as unknown. If it’s important, leave me a voice mail. Don’t just keep calling me. Sheesh. Heh.

Horoscope

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): When China’s Three Gorges Dam finally becomes fully operational in 2009, the hydroelectric power it generates will provide renewable energy to a sizable portion of the population. As a replacement for coal consumption, it will also eliminate 100 million tons of greenhouse gases. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it will require a thousand towns and villages to be permanently flooded, forcing over a million people to leave their homes. I believe you may be faced with a comparable option in 2008, Taurus. If you’re willing to deal with displacement and the loss of traditions, you will gain access to tremendous reserves of pure mojo.

Ramblin’ along, heading nowhere in particular…

Today is a better day.

Perspective. Today is all about perspective. It’s been a background process, figuring this out.

“Oh, the important still forces its way through your thick skull when it comes down to the wire, doesn’t it, Herod?” – Madness, the Teacher

I remembered writing that phrase less angrily. But, then, Madness was being a bit defensive.

I have an awesome job that is paying my bills, will allow me to catch up financially, and to finally stop playing catch-up. I have fun at my job, doing something that I love to do.

I am well loved.

Everything can be taken care of, all I need to do is give issues the time they deserve, and work to get them done. Finishing moving stuff into my apartment, re-discovering my spiritual center, getting a coherent and logical budget set up (after the holidays, thankyouverymuch), reviewing my writing goals, setting up timelines to finish pieces, and getting them done. Hell, I’m already hitting a Sci-Fi con in January, and plan to have somewhere between 5 and 10 books to sell there. I may even end up on some panels. CRAZINESS! *flails arms wildly about*

Oh, and looks like Everybody Reads is sold out of The Remembrance, so until they order more, they’ll only be available at full price through Lulu, Amazon, or your local book store. I’ll have them for $15 at ConFusion, and at subsequent conventions. :)

Since May 6, 2006, there have been 89 copies of The Remembrance printed. As far as I know, I have the only copy that hasn’t been sold to someone. That’s not half bad for a first novel, self-published, and self-marketed. I best get back on that horse.

Where was that letter that I was going to send to Shaman Drum in Ann Arbor…

I am not afraid.

From Bruce Schneier’s blog, who got it from here:

“I am not afraid of terrorism, and I want you to stop being afraid on my behalf. Please start scaling back the official government war on terror. Please replace it with a smaller, more focused anti-terrorist police effort in keeping with the rule of law. Please stop overreacting. I understand that it will not be possible to stop all terrorist acts. I accept that. I am not afraid.”
