Unfortunately, David will not be appearing at PenguiCon this year. He regrets having to cancel his attendance. Details about the decision can be found here.

There’s a Steven site? Who knew?
So, there’s this web site over at http://steven.davidmcrampton.com/ that used to have its own domain. When the Steven project started up, I was intending on creating an entire independent comics publishing company. Well, when the project sputtered, and came close to dying, that didn’t happen. It’s nice, though, when I’m proven right about there being a void to fill for that sort of thing, locally. It’s even better when I’m proven right with -quality- art and writing.
Enter Comics Obscura. Just take a few minutes to browse.
Lansing-based. Amazing artwork. Quality writing. Yes, I have all three issues. And yes, I’m at least going to be picking up the Tao of Snarky when it gets out there as its own issue.
Did I mention that it’s in Lansing? Michigan? As in, where I live?
I’m incredibly happy and excited for these guys, and only half because I have my own nefarious plans for them. In unrelated news, I’ve removed all of the publication company logos and text from the Steven site… the one with the URL up top. I updated the bios a bit, removed defunct email addresses, and posted a nice ranty rant on the front page. I’ve linked to the Steven fiction that’s being posted up on the main site and plotted out the history of the idea on the About Us page. I even flexed my newbish muscles at graphic creation in coming up with a new logo.
Needless to say, I hate it. I’ll come up with something else soon, no doubt.
It should trouble me more, I think, that I haven’t been able to get in touch with
On a roll.
This is how I roll. No really, I’m gonna get down on the floor and roll around, all Homer-like.
Or not.
Issue 3 of theSteven fiction has been posted on the site. This issue introduces Steven’s progeny, Blaize. She’s as creepy as he is, with just a tad more viciousness and a penchant for retribution. She features heavily in the developing story. In fact, I’m writing as much about her as I am about Steven in the third story arc. And all thanks to
I’m keeping the momentum going. I was able to write on both of my lunch breaks for the past two days, though they were pretty truncated. I had intended on writing yesterday after my blood donation, but first I stayed too late at work to make my donation appointment (must reschedule!) and then I had the opportunity to hang out with
Good lord, my writery posts are beginning to eclipse my random-life-update posts, horoscope posts, and quizzes. What the hell? You’d think I was focusing on being a writer or something…
Weekly Word Count – What indeed.
I know that this is a recurring theme, but I really should take my own advice more often. What would I do with myself if I finished Steven? What would I do with myself if I had two major writing projects under my belt, instead of just one? It’s definitely time to find out. I started, and finished, writing the fiction behind Issue 19 this weekend.
Not only that, but I seem to have come up with a crazy, wacky, zany idea about getting it to print. I’ve been working on this Steven idea since 2003, and the idea of it seeing print makes me all tingly. I went to bed after writing, got up the next morning -thinking about writing-. I didn’t putz around or waste time, I went straight to writing again. This is good.
I’ll be putting the next issue worth of Steven fiction up in the next day or so. If you’ve got comments about it, or any of the other stuff I’ve posted up for your reading pleasure, I’m very interested. Comments here, or posts in the Google Group would really help me improve, I think. And that’s really what I’m going for. I’m trying to be a better writer. :)
More with the random.
Chest x-ray was a success. Quick and painless has been my general experience at Sparrow, except for that one time. Anyway, in and out, and my Doc should have those nifty pictures soon, so I can make an appointment to have another sleep study done. I wonder if I should do the pics, like
I just filled out the American Community Survey. It’s pretty strange to get a piece of mail that says YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED BY LAW. Now that the U.S. Mail is a corporation instead of a governmental body, I have to wonder if the Census Bureau has to pay them for all of this heavy postage. Either way, I’m not paying for it. (The last sentence has been brought to you by Typical American Responses, Inc.)
WinAmp is kicking iTunes’ butt. I’m just sayin’.
There’s more stuff up at the writery site. For serious. I’m continuing to slap up the fiction behind the upcoming comic, lovingly entitled Steven. I’m thinking of subtitling it Schizophrenic Vampire with Delusions of Grandeur -or- Angel of Thirst. I miss those dual secondary titles from back in the day. And we wonder where literary dualism comes from. (Or do we?)
Maybe I should finish Book 3 of the Steven fiction. But, then two major projects would be completed! What would I do with myself?
Random.
My mood has tanked. Will likely be spending my time this weekend divided between:
1 – nose in book (either reading or writing)
2 – nose in screen (ow! bleeding!)
3 – nose in television (um, what?)
I have a how-to book on filing for divorce to finish reading. I have a mortgage company to wrangle with (shut up! i know they’re closed on weekends!). I have a mountain the size of a depressed robot’s brain to write. I have The Tick (live action) and the first two discs of Battlestar Galacita to watch. Great googly moogly, I have SHIT TO DO.
X-ray of my chest region. That happens tonight.
Did you know that Nerdcore Hiphop has a movie? DIDJA? Did you know that you can request that Nerdcore Rising be played at a theater near you? Perhaps you should. Just sayin’.
And while I’m on the subject of things that I’m catching up on, I -will- be at PenguiCon again this year. It looks like I’ll be on just as many panels, too. On the downside, I totally missed getting a hotel room before it filled up. Luckily, the Embassy Suites across the way are honoring the room rate, AFAIK, and are serving as the overflow hotel. If they’re anything like the Embassy Suites in Niagara Falls, they’re nice. Anyway, not only will I be there, not only will I have books, but I will have Who is the Rebuilder badge ribbons. NOT ONLY THAT, but the link on the web site will go live, and so you’ll get an actual answer to the question!
Just like with the Squirrel King (that jerk).
Okay, I’m done rambling. For now.
ConVocation and more Steven
ConVocation was a whirlwind of meeting long lost friends and crossing local paths. I’ll be posting more pics as soon as I get them developed. *gasp* Film? Yup.
The next two chapters of Steven are up on the short fiction page. Keep in mind that these are the scripts that are driving the comic book issues. My artist’s working hard on converting my writing style into a visual one, and I’ve been quite pleased with what I’ve seen so far. More in that vein soon.
Weekly Word Count
Holy cats, writerly update, but no new word count. That will have to come later.
– I’m going to ConVocation this weekend. It’s very, very likely that the last of the Squirrel King badge ribbons will be given out. Get one while you can! :)
– The first issue – two chapters – of the fiction behind the Steven comic have been posted on the Short Fiction page. Yes, the comic book project is still going on. If I have to draw it in stick figures when I’m 60 years old, it’ll happen. :)
– High Voltage ConFusion pics have been posted on my Picasa page. I really need to turn off the automatic light correction on my phone’s camera, as it tends to give a yellow tinge inside of hotel rooms.
– I will be bringing some bookmarks for
– I think I’ve corrected all of the errors on my writery web page. Of course, this means that someone will find something I missed. If you do, please point it out. :)
