This is why I say that people that think as I do need to get their hands dirty and get involved in the government.

The RIAA is an independant company. Not a part of the government. It “represents” major recording labels, and through them, the artists that are signed. That’s a bunch of bullshit. Talk to an artist on a major label, or read any interview with them about their cut of album cash. It’s a seriously retarded ratio, because everybody’s got a hand in the pot.

Now, the Librarian of Congress has decreed that a 0.07 cent (that’s 7 hundredths of a cent) per user per listener fee be payed by web broadcasters. That’s commercial webcasts. Noncommercial broadcast stations get reduced rate of $.0002/performance for archived programming and first two side channels (down from CARP’s recommended $.0005). There is, however, still a minimum $500 a year royalty charge.

Who gets this money? Stations like IPM play ZERO RIAA artists. Do they still have to pay the RIAA? And how the FUCK does that work?!

I know assloads of smart people. Some of them are even charismatic. Why the hell are we not getting involved? Lack of cash? Fuck that, go grassroots. Lack of motivation. Well, shit. Useless Megacorporation from the Land of Stupid just squashed webcasting like a bug.

Fuck it. I’m going to have to become a politician. I’m already fat and white, that’s two aspects of the system I can twist to my favor, then demolish once I get in.

Plans

Tomorrow:

  • Work from 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Have lunch with Genny at the Chinese restaurant near work, noon.
  • Right after work, go to Eric and Beck’s apartment. Avoid the grimness they’re tossing back and forth. Analyze (that sounds so cold) the possibilities with Amanda, Beck’s friend.
  • Fit in a lease-signing appointment if I can.

Saturday:

  • Get brakes fixed.
  • Last paper for class.
  • LARP

Sunday:

  • Begin packing

Monday:

  • Turn in paper in class
  • Work
  • Study for final
  • Kung Fu lesson

And of course, I will do my Kung Fu exercises every day. And I will write some in my fiction every day. Strange contact from an old friend today, and I find myself missing and .

Random thoughts, once again.

The PC, it’s accessories, and my extra case will be packed in Kinko’s boxes tonight. As well as most of the stuff in the desk. I find myself wanting to take the heavy bitch with me, because it’s huge enough for my 21″ monitor.

I’m worrying about money again.

I’ve been approved on the apartment. I need to leave a message that I’d like to make an appointment to sign a lease ASAP.

I need batteries to test out this Discman.

The is doing his best to help me acheive one of my dreams, and I can’t thank him enough for it.

I am so close to finishing that debt off. So close to accomplishing such a major goal. Why am I tormenting myself about it?

*sigh*

Verified:

Ethernet cable good.
PCI slots good.
All four IPs are set up and active on AT&T Broadband’s end.

Conclusion:

My 5-year-old ethernet card has kicked the bucket. I must stop by Discount PC for a new card. Mother beetches.

Crazy.

I didn’t go to the club last night. I went grocery shopping and then fucked with Linux so I could write my paper. UNTIL 2 AM. First, printing. That took about an hour. Found out that lpd didn’t like the tab in the hosts file. Fixed that. Then, the word processor that came with the damn thing forgot where its fonts were. Looked in the directory, the fonts were all there, but the font.dir file was missing. Just *poof* gone. Fuck it. I stopped trying to fix it around 2 am, and went to sleep. I got up at 7 and came in to work to write my paper, then went to class.

When I get home, I’m opening up RedCarpet, and uninstalling that fucking word processor. Then I’m installing OpenOffice.org, because I KNOW it works.

Ok, that out of the way, everything else about Linux has kicked ass so far. Once I get the word processor shit fixed, I need to open up the damn case (maybe before I get the word processor fixed) and re-seat the network card. It’s only five years old, it shouldn’t be failing yet. :)

Time for that will have to be sparing, because I’m going to go study, do my exercises, then have a late dinner after work. THEN I’m going to fuck with the computer.

Tasty.

My stomach is full. I treated myself to Chili’s for dinner tonight, and had my favorite: Chicken fried steak, with mashed potatos, corn on the cob, and garlic bread. Washed it all down with some cherry (grenadine) Coke.

Now, delicious RedHat Linux is installing on my system. CD install is the way to go for my slow-ass system. I’ve also installed the “Authoring and Publishing” group of packages, so I wonder what word processor and publishing material I will find when it’s done. Discovery is the word of the day!

And now I will finish with this grand thought:

I feel the need to poop.

Order and lists.

Today, I slept in instead of getting my brakes fixed. I came into work and brought in the off-site copies of our server backups that are hopelessly outdated. I also brought in the mac software that I’d gotten when I purchased the iMac. The stuff that was on burned cd’s anyway. Not like CoreComm is going to care about licenses any time soon.

I am currently burning the CD’s for RedHat Linux 7.3 (valhalla), because it’s legal. So nyah-nyah. No more pirated software for Mr. Skippy.

I turned in the app and the application fee for 1016 Chester, the apartment on the bottom floor. My fingers are crossed.

Downloading alt.test messages again. Woohoo.

Tonight, I have to find the time to do the following things:

  • Laundry
  • Install Linux
  • Study for paper
  • Grocery/bathroom stuff shop at Meijer’s
  • Kung Fu exercises

Perhaps sleep is a far-fetched goal for a Skippy.
