NaNoWriMo and my scarcity

It looks like I may be scarce in posting around LJ-land while this NaNoWriMo thing is going on. I’m up to 3,020 words, and have even (FINALLY) got a writing space that I like in my office at home.

I am having a blast, and I think that’s going to last for this entire month.

If you are interested, you can check my progress here:

Also, we’re gearing up for WindyCon, getting teasers ready, ordering ribbons… it really is an exciting time, Neo.

[Excerpt] Adam’s Name

Adam contemplates tripping over a girl who wasn’t there…

Of all of his foggy memories, running into and tripping over Susan was the most clear. It was like he’d been completely sober for just a couple of seconds, and then the drunk had come back. She had been thinking about her friend, and about some kind of life-changing decision. He remembered her dark brown eyes, as clearly as if he were looking at them. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that these details were all that he remembered. He had no idea what her hair was like, her skin, her clothes, or anything about this friend of hers.

Updateroo.

There have been all kinds of writery things going on lately, and it’s extremely exciting.

and I are going to WindyCon in November! Chicago-area sci-fi/fantasy fandom, here I come. We’re bringing books, teasers, hopefully some ribbons, and the intent to wow them with how awesome I am. Er, my book is. Heh.

The Steven page has been updated with new behind-the-script fiction. If you’ve been keeping up on it, this is the first part where any consequences start to become important.

I am all signed up for National Novel Writing Month. If you’re not familiar, I’ll be attempting to write an entire novel in one month. Yes, indeed, it’s the sequel to The Remembrance.

There are all kinds of updates to my home page, mostly around the “Where’s Dave” section. There are now pictures of each of the events that I’ve been to so far. Not only that, but you can leave comments or discuss the pics that are there. Check it out if you get a few moments. Also, all of these announcements went out a while ago on the Google Group (mailing list), so if you’re interested, or if you have a friend who would be, feel free to sign up.

I think that’s it on the writer front. I haven’t been making a lot of time for writing, but I’ve been sick as a dog for the last couple of weeks, recovering and then not. But that’s another post. :)

[Excerpt] Adam’s Name

Most of us have seen someone out of the corner of our eye that’s not really there. Not many of us have been knocked on our butt by said shadowy being.

Seth shrugged and slipped the notebook into a pocket of his hooded sweatshirt. “Ready?” Susan nodded and left the tip on the table. He cast one last glance at the clubbers that had started the whole conversation, and then they were out the door and into the brisk Autumn air. You could feel the heat and the smells radiate off of you into the breeze, and it was one of the reasons that Seth stayed in Michigan. Nothing like a good Autumn.

He was startled out of his enjoyment as Susan fell bodily into him, nearly knocking him over. He caught the brick wall of the Coney with one hand, and Susan with the other. Pain sliced into his palm, and he tumbled to the sidewalk with her.

She was up again in an instant. “Hey, fucker! Why don’t you watch… where…” She turned around slowly, searching the empty sidewalks. “Where did he go?”

“Who?” Seth used his left hand to pull himself up by the brick wall. His right palm was scraped, bleeding, and full of sidewalk grime. Great. He had iodine and bandages back at his place, but this was going to hurt for a while.

“The guy that ran into me! He was drunk; I could smell it on his breath.” She had that same look in her eyes, as if she was waking up from a dream. “He had the strangest eyes. Brown with little flecks of green in them.”

Seth felt a chill in his bones again, and thought that maybe they really had jumped off of some kind of cliff. “You saw his eyes that close when he knocked you down?” He limped over to her, and started them walking to her building.

“No. I didn’t even get a look at them. You know what else? I know what his name is. It’s Adam.”

Spread the Art – a meme

the first five people to respond to this post will get some form of art, by me, specifically for them. i make no guarantees about quality, but your piece will be unique.

the only catch, of course, is that as with most memes, if you sign up, you have to put this in your own journal as well.

Okay, who wants a story? :)

Less with the cranky, more with the substance.

It looks like I forgot to mention it, but the new Steven fiction went up on Monday. You can check it out here:

Updates are going to resume on their Monday schedule. Sketches are still coming, with the intended modifier of “soon.” :)

should be landing in Detroit Metro any minute. I’m trying not to agonize. Trying. Heh.
Update: Her flight has been delayed until 11:45 PM Eastern.
Update: Her flight has landed. She’s back, safe and sound.

I’ve been running errands and uploading wedding pictures instead of writing before work, lately. I’ve got some updates to make on my main web site, as well, and some eBay auctions to set up. I actually spent time in my office at home last night and today.

People at work have been noting that my expression has been down as of late. And I’ve been out of it. It’s funny, without to interact with, I find myself in a state much like my days of silence, contemplating heavily. I’m not thinking about particular things or issues or whathaveyou, just deep inside myself. The fact that it’s Autumn, overcast, and rainy does nothing but encourage this.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): The new CEO of soft drink giant PepsiCo is Indra Nooyi, striking a modest but significant blow for female equality in the business world. That’s the good news. The bad news? Pepsi is a terrible product that rots teeth, has no nutritional value, and contribute to the obesity epidemic. Keep this in mind as you carry out your assignment in the coming week, Taurus. Fight and claw and scheme and dream to raise up the power of the feminine (yes, even if you’re a man), but only if it’s a version of the feminine that raises up everyone and everything else, too.
