Attention: Writers

From :

“first off, writers and writer-wannabes: do you have any favorite LJ communities that are writing related? i’ve promised myself i’d do something with this 1/3 done draft and i’m at a point where i could use some advice or guidance on the next step(s).”

Anybody?

Freedom

So, this rejection from Baen has created an opportunity.

It’s time for a re-write.

I’ve already been re-doing all the intros to the chapters. The poetry is going bye-bye, and Timothy Marley is getting a bit of an upgrade.

The dream sequences are going to be double-checked, and only re-arranged if absolutely necessary.

The invasion of California will stay. The robots in California will stay.

They just may not be giant. And they likely won’t transform.

This is a big diversion for the last 4 or so chapters of the book. Would anyone like to share their opinion? You likely won’t get this chance after I become incredibly famous. ;)

Almost to the day…

Dear Author,

Thank you for showing us your novel, Remembrance. Unfortunately it does not seem right for us.

While due to the volume of submissions and the press of business it is impossible for us comment in greater depth, please do not take this rejection as being necessarily a reflection on your work; we can accept fewer than one percent of the manuscripts submitted to us.

Best of luck in another market.

Sincerely,

The Editors

Update on Writing Projects

Little City Mafia

  • The entire piece (or what I’ve got so far) needs to be typed up, and the character names need to be replaced.
  • The city name needs to be replaced with a fictional one.
  • The characters need to develop away from their outlines. No need for a second novel with too much shading of real people.
  • Research Bushido.
  • Contact about a visit to Cleveland (or him to MI) in the near future.

Adam’s Name

  • Talk to and Rick to make sure that they’re still interested.
  • Re-hash question of serial short story vs. RPG vs. novel.
  • Write the bit about Chicago.
  • Get a more thorough description of all characters – RP?

The Remembrance

  • Re-write chapter introductions as excerpts from Timothy’s writings. Drop a few more hints and explinations, as befits each chapter, through this.
  • Re-order Chapter 1 in its proper chronological order. Leave in the references to the seasons.
  • Re-distribute dream images so that the Shogun’s involvement shows up earlier. Possibly end each chapter with a dream segment, as each was begun with an excerpt.

The Glass Crown

  • Not tellin’. >;)

Steven

  • Finish re-writing what is done of Book 2.
  • Contact Ogre’s girlfriend about drawing, as well as the artists suggested earlier by you people.

New Moon

Well, I’ve got a bit of time while Software Update Services server sychronizes for the first time….

New moon today, so I’m silent today. I’ve accidentally said things twice, but to no one in particular. Nobody was home, and the dog wasn’t even here. How odd.

As soon as the synchronization is complete, I’m going to head out to the coffee shop to do some studying and such. I’ve got an awesome idea, modified by Zach (though not in the way he suggested), for a scene in the sequel to The Remembrance. I think I’m going to write it out.

I’ve been grazing a bit here at home, but I’m hungry again. I don’t really want to go to Denny’s, despite the ability to eat AND study there. For once, I’m not even in the mood for Thai. I want my Theio’s back.

Also, Adam’s Name may have morphed once again. The project may have become huge, entirely managable, and infinitely more fun. Heh.

I miss .

[White Wolf] Phil’s Journal

This was written after the 11 June game.

Mei Ling kept talking about the “puppy pile”, and how it would make me feel better. I have to admit that she was right. I was moping in my room in the house, wondering if they’d order me to strip when they came in (and gearing up to get all petulant about it, honestly) when there was a soft knock on the door.

They were polite. They didn’t push me. They were there to listen. They were patient, waiting for me to open up in my own time. Despite being the one that did most of the talking, I feel like I am infinitely closer to these two than I intended to be.

I was worried that I was going to lose Ling after I told her about the Quiet. Instead, she came back with an entire Cabal that she wanted me involved in. There’s so much that we’ve all talked about… I can’t write it all down…

[There’s a darker spot on the paper, and some smeared ink. The text starts again below that.]

Rapid-fire. This is how it was in the Quiet, or in that time that I remember as Quiet. Revelations and understandings would come in spurts, and so fast that I could only react for fear of drowning. My fortune in a year’s time is to be in California, fighting what seems to be Nephandi. If I still have no avatar, I will still fight. If I do have an avatar, then I will have succeeded where others have failed, if they have even tried.

The Weaver’s Song. The Dragon’s Song. An avatar that is of the Weaver, but not mad. One who serves balance.

Weaver affiliate Phil is off to The Well, somewhere in China, to meet his fate. See you soon.
